Chaldean Community Impact

Examining the impact of Chaldean business ownership in southeast Michigan

Metro Detroit is home to the largest concentration of Chaldeans outside of the Middle East, and the community has been growing through both natural population growth as well as from displaced refugees moving to Michigan. Research has shown that the diversity of people plays a powerful role in community growth. It has also been found that diversity is a basic driver of regional growth. Local research shows immigrants in Michigan are well-educated and entrepreneurial, and they are playing a large role in the economic growth of the region.

To better understand the Chaldean impact in Michigan, the Chaldean American Chamber and the Chaldean Community Foundation partnered with iLabs on research about business ownership and investments by Chaldeans in Michigan. In late 2016 and early 2017, surveys were sent to 1772 random households who were members of churches within the Chaldean Diocese of Saint Thomas the Apostle of Detroit.
